  • Very rich in pectin: regulates transit and soothes the intestinal lining
  • Astringent: traditionally used against diarrhoea

! Contraindications

  • Not to be eaten raw (tart, highly astringent flesh)
  • ⚠️ Pips should never be chewed or swallowed (cyanogenic compounds)
  • Astringent effect: caution in case of constipation
  • Rich in sugars once processed (jelly, liqueur): moderation in case of diabetes
